Our names are Scott Rose and Patricia McGrath. We are both retired elementary school teachers from Alaska. We lived in Alaska for 43 and 25 years, respectively. We built our own 3600 sq. ft. house in Alaska. It was featured on HGTV’s “Buying Alaska”. During our time in Alaska, we traveled to St. John, USVI to build our cottage and villa. We were able to work on them during our Christmas, Spring, and Summer breakAfter retirement in 2015, we moved to St. John, USVI full time. During this time, we built a cottage for another couple. Unfortunately, in 2017, we were hit by a Category 5 hurricane, Irma. It devasted the island. Luckily, we sustained minimal damage. We were without power for 3 months.

In 2016, we had traveled to southern Oregon to look for property for our future home. We ended up buying the first lot we saw, which is in barely over the border in coastal California. The Hurricane Irma experience accelerated our plans to leave the Caribbean and move to the West Coast. So in August of 2018, we made the move. We bought a newer 21’ Jayco camper and parked it on our lot. We built a shed right away and installed a washer/dryer. We also put in a small deck with a hot tub to make life in the camper more comfortable.

We broke ground in January 2019. We completed our home to the day in January 2020. After that time, we needed to take a break. We spent some time traveling, which we love. We spent time in French Polynesia and Europe.

In May 2023, we broke ground on Spindrift Vista. We weren’t in a rush, so we took our time and even took a month off for travel. We worked most days and finished Spindrift Vista in February, 2024.
